Saying Goodbye…For Now

Many of you may not know, but on Wednesday, March 28th, my father passed away. He’d been trying to recover from heart surgery for almost two weeks and his body was just too tired. So dad went on home where he’ll never feel pain or sickness again.

My dad was an amazing man. I’d like to share with you something I wrote and had someone else read for me (I was just too emotional) at my dad’s memorial service.

My dad was the type of person who was liked instantly upon meeting him. From his happy smile, to the sparkle in his eyes, he radiated light, warmth and a vibrant spirit.

As a father, my dad was a true nurturer in every sense of the word, and too care of us all. School days started with dad waking us up, making breakfast  and packing lunches, before shuttling us off to school.

Most weekends and summers were spent outdoors, whether it was playing catch, fishing, camping or gardening, he always made sure he spent time with us.

He had a different, but equally special, relationship with all three of his girls.

With Tawnya, the intellectual side came out. I remember the two of them talking about books and sharing witty jokes.

With me, he understood that the middle child lives for reassurances. He made sure I knew I’d always be his little girl, no matter my age. He continually told me, “I’ll always be your daddy, and I’ll always love you.”

With Bree, he embraced his inner kid and unleashed a daredevil. The two of them rode every thrill ride or roller coaster they could.

I think because dad was such an amazing father, I know our relationship hasn’t ended. Since his passing, I’ve felt a sense of peace, I know that’s dad, still taking care of me because he’ll always be my daddy and he’ll always love me.
